Tactical GPS main map with MGRS grid overlay, satellite topo layer and mission markers

capabilities

A complete land-nav toolkit in one app — no account, no cloud dependency, no clutter.

Coordinates

MGRS & UTM native

Full-precision military grid with live grid overlay, coordinate conversion and pin plotting the way trained navigators expect.

Maps

Offline topo maps

Download topographic and satellite layers for entire regions. Navigate with zero signal — airplane mode is the test.

Terrain

Viewshed & line of sight

See exactly what's visible from any point, or check LOS between two positions with a full elevation profile.

Interop

TAK connectivity

Connect to TAK servers with built-in certificate enrollment — share your position and see your team's, straight from the app.

Symbology

NATO APP-6 symbols

Mark friendly, hostile, neutral and unknown units with standard military symbology instead of generic pins.

Low light

Night-vision mode

Red or green monochrome display across the entire app preserves your dark adaptation on night ops.

Hardware

External GNSS / RTK

Pair Bluetooth GNSS receivers for centimeter-class RTK positioning when phone GPS isn't enough.

Data

GPX · KML · GeoPackage

Import and export routes, tracks and overlays. Bring mission data in, take your recon out.

Field tools

Routes, rings & sensors

Route planning with elevation profiles, range rings, geofences, tactical compass, tracker and weather.

built for

One instrument, four missions.

Land nav training

Practice plotting MGRS points, pace counts and terrain association before your course — or keep the skill sharp after it.

TAK teams

A lightweight iOS TAK client for volunteer SAR, event safety and coordinated field teams.

Backcountry & hunting

Scout glassing points with viewshed, plan routes offline and navigate far beyond cell coverage.

Milsim & airsoft

Plan operations with NATO symbology, range rings and shared overlays that look the part — because they are.

field views

Actual screens. The dark, glare-free UI is the default — not a theme.

faq

Straight answers to the questions we get most.

What is MGRS and why use it instead of latitude/longitude?
The Military Grid Reference System divides the world into labeled grid squares, so a position becomes one short string — like 32T MR 02596 95205 — that's easy to read over a radio and plot on a paper map. It's the standard for NATO militaries and many search-and-rescue teams. Tactical GPS displays and converts MGRS, UTM and latitude/longitude simultaneously.
Does the app work offline?
Yes — that's the point. Download topographic and satellite maps for entire regions in advance, and all navigation, coordinate conversion and terrain tools run entirely on your device. Airplane mode is the test we design for. See the manual: Map & Layers.
Can it connect to a TAK server? Is it an iTAK alternative?
Tactical GPS includes a built-in TAK client: it connects to TAK servers over TLS, shares your position and shows your team's, with QR-code certificate enrollment that works out of the box with OpenTAKServer. If you found full TAK clients heavy for your use case, this is the lightweight way to get your iPhone on the network. Setup steps: Team — TAK Server.
What is viewshed analysis?
Pick any point on the map and the app computes — from elevation data — exactly which terrain is visible from there and which is hidden. Use it to choose an observation post, plan a radio relay, or scout a glassing spot before you hike in. Line-of-sight checks between two points, with a full elevation profile, are included too. Details: Terrain Tools.
Does it support external GPS receivers?
Yes. Pair a Bluetooth GNSS receiver and the app uses it instead of the phone's internal GPS, including RTK receivers for centimeter-class accuracy — useful for surveying, staking and precise waypoint work. Pairing guide: External GNSS.
Can I import my own map data?
GPX, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON and GeoPackage files all import directly — routes, tracks, waypoints and overlays. Your recon exports back out the same way. How-to: Import & Export.
What's free and what's Pro?
The download is free and includes core MGRS/UTM navigation. Pro unlocks the full toolkit — offline map regions, terrain analysis, TAK and more — as a subscription or a one-time Lifetime purchase. No account required for either.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad, iOS 16 or later. No Android version — Android already has ATAK; iOS is where we focus.
